‘Player 1 gets new high score!’
OK, I had planned to have this ready
sooner, but I’ve spent the last week playing Worms Armageddon and Descent 3 and…
uh… sorry, ‘copying vital SRB2 resources’ across’. Seriously though, I have
been doing a mix of testing the PCs power and copying SRB2 across via a bunch of
floppies, but AJ still refuses to send me the whole of SRB2 in one nice big
package because of my current online settings.
Although, oddly enough, SRB2: XMAS 0.93
doesn’t work on this computer, but works on the old one, and I’ve recently
tested it at school so I have played it (thoroughly) and though I knew what to
look for, I was still an unexpected surprise, as A.J Freda and Rocket were
mostly involved the new version (programming is down to them, remember?) – and it’s
got a lot better, Sonic is faster, Tails is there, it’s all so much more like a
Sonic game. And of course – the all-important SCORE/RINGS/TIME/LIVES.
I’ll focus more on the score, as we’ll base
the Grading a little bit off this (though we have left in the
Kills/Secrets/Items to monitor your progress) – we now have a working scoring
system, which works great. Once again, the satisfaction of getting under 30
seconds is back.
We might consider adding a high score
table, which might be another replay-encouragement, along with the Grading, so
you can see your 1,000,000+ points splattered in your own personal hall of
fame, but we want to try and get a nice balance of gameplay without too many stopgaps
and pauses, so it’s not sure if the idea will stay or not.
To make up for the recent lack of WGD,
there’s another one tomorrow!
