SRB2: XMAS v0.93 – The Public Reaction.
So, with SRB2: XMAS 0.93 out and about,
what does everyone think?
For all you Internet users, this is the
third release of SRB2: XMAS, so perhaps everything isn’t so overwhelming the
first time you loaded up 0.93, as you knew roughly what’ll be in the package
from 0.90 and 0.92, but none-the-less, it got a big thumbs up, a drastic
improvement from 0.90, as Sorok Echidna (Head of Mobian Spuds) and Blaze said
on the MB:
SorokE110:
“v0.93 is the first SRB-related product I
really *LOVE*. I liked SRB1 (kinda sorta), I liked HT, I liked SRB2XMAS v0.91
and v0.92 more... but THIS... I love the speed! I love all the Sonic 2 fonts
and related stuff! I love the ability to play as Tails! I love the forward
jump-dash! I love the speed booters! (Yes, I call them "speed
booters"- got a problem wit' dat?) All it needs is a fixed-up spindash,
completed sprites, and Knux... and I will be a happy camper. A *very* happy
camper. Kudos, guys.”
And Blaze:
“SRB2Xmas V.93 is definitly awesome. I
can't wait for v1.0... anyways, later guys... :D
This is just adding to what was said
earlier about not being too excited about SRB2. (to tell you the truth, I
thought HT and Xmas 91 and 92 were rather boring... 92 was better than 91 of
course...) but this is just amazing. good job and good luck.”
Meanwhile however, I decided to test SRB2:
XMAS out with a much harsher audience – the Real Life audience. Using my
CD-Rewriter, a burned a copy of SRB2: XMAS v0.93 onto CD and brought into a
school, and popped it onto my work area. I quietly ran it in, and began
playing.
The most complex ‘action game’ we have at
school is Civilization II, closely followed by Hearts… hmm… so this was quite a
breath of fresh air to them, and immediately I challenged anyone to play a
split-screen game with me. And the response I got was quite a surprise. I was
certainly expecting a lot of people to say “It’s Sonic! Therefore it must be
crap!” or “It’s not professional quality! (Well, duh, it’s a demo…)” or “The
graphics aren’t like <Insert Dreamcast/ Graphically-Intense PC game
here>! They’re pants!” – it appears that only about four or five people have
claimed the graphics are ‘crap’ but only glanced over my shoulder and didn’t
actually bother to see the game in action for more than 10 seconds.
I can’t wait to see what LAN play over the
school network will be like when it’ll be up…
Next time: The contest begins…
