Making Polygonal Sectors
Suppose you want to make a sector that's a regular octagon. You know by
now how to make a square and split linedefs and move vertices to do
that. There must be a better way, though. There is!
Right-click an empty area and select New Polygonal Sector:
Set "Sides" to 8 and "Radius" to 256 if that's not what they say
already. Then press OK.
There you go, a brand new octagon. It isn't snapped to the grid,
though; you can see that it's a little off the blue dots. Some dragging
of vertices can fix that:
Cool! Brand new octagon sector! This sector, along with the eight
linedefs and eight vertices that comprise it, can be manipulated just
like the square/triangle/diamond we made earlier. If you mouse over the
sectors, you'll notice our diamond sector, the one we made first, is
numbered 0, while the new octagon is numbered 1. If we made a third
sector, it would be number 2. You get the pattern.
Of course, now that you've aligned it to the grid, the octagon is not
exactly regular anymore — the side lengths differ slightly for the
horizontal/vertical and diagonal lines. But who's gonna notice?
Probably no one, and aligning objects to the grid can make your life a
lot easier.
